Canine Good Citizen

     Responsible Owners, Well-Mannered Dogs. The AKC's Canine Good Citizen programs are recognized as the gold standard for dog behavior. 
All dogs, including both purebred and mixed breed dogs are welcome to participate in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen Testing.

The 10 test items you and your dog must pass to get your AKC CGC certificate and title. These test items include:
  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Appearance and grooming
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Sitting and laying down on command including staying in place on command
  • Coming when called
  • Walking past a neutral dog
  • Reaction to a distraction
  • Supervised separation
 
     Advanced CGC testing (CGCA and CGCU) are open to all dogs with their CGC and with an AKC number including ILP, PAL and Canine Partners
